SAN DIEGO – The No. 15 San Diego women's tennis program (11-5, 0-0 WCC) opened the WCC season in convincing fashion, downing LMU (7-9, 2-2 WCC) on Friday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Facing their first WCC opponent of the season, the Toreros opened with one of their most decisive doubles points of the season.
- Claudia De Las Heras and Jordyn McBride breezed to a 6-1 victory and Elizabeth Goldsmith and Mia Mack were close behind with a 6-2 decision.
- LMU responded in singles and got off to strong starts on courts two, three and six.
- Nevertheless, McBride continued her big day by turning in a dominant, 6-1, 6-1 win.
- In addition, De Las Heras and Abigail Desiatnikov also jumped out to early leads and cruised in their matches to secure the win for San Diego in a clinch scenario.
- The remaining three matches would remain unfinished, despite a terrific rally from Goldsmith, who took the second set after dropping the first.
