Box Score LOS ANGELES – The No. 23 San Diego women's tennis program (17-7, 5-1 WCC) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, defeating No. 56 Grand Canyon (22-3, 7-0 WAC), 4-0 on Friday afternoon at Marks Stadium on the campus of USC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Facing an opponent who rolled to a perfect WAC record, the Toreros came out of the gate with energy and matched the Lopes in doubles.
• Mia Mack and Kristina Nordikyan surged out to an early advantage, while the remaining contests were knotted on serve.
• While Mack and Nordikyan secured their match in an orderly fashion, Abigail Desiatnikov and Elizabeth Goldsmith secured a late break point to win 6-4 and put San Diego ahead.
• Singles proved fruitful for the Toreros, who rolled to opening set wins in all six matches.
• Desiatnikov and Filippa Bruu-Syversen stormed out to massive leads of 6-0 and 6-1 respectively.
• Despite seven-straight breaks of serve to open her match, Goldsmith won a hard-fought, 7-6 opening set, while Mack, Jordyn McBride and Nordikyan also followed suit.
• Desiatnikov gave the Toreros a boost with a 6-0, 6-0 thrashing, while Bruu-Syversen would also earn a comfortable win.
• Grand Canyon made a late push, by taking the second set on court six and forcing Mack and Goldsmith into more competitive second sets.
• However, the Toreros needed one extra match to clinch and McBride would be the one to close out the win, earning a 7-5, 6-3 decision.

• The Toreros are set for a rematch with No. 11 USC, facing the Trojans on Saturday at 2 p.m., at Marks Stadium.
