SAN DIEGO — Eight scoreless innings on the mound from true freshman right-hander
Logan Reddemann led San Diego baseball (32-13, 16-4 WCC) to a 2-0 victory over West Coast Conference foe Santa Clara (21-22, 8-9 WCC) on Saturday evening at Fowler Park, clinching a series victory for USD as it earned its third shutout win of 2024.
After the Toreros used six pitchers to emerge victorious in Friday night's 13-inning thriller, Reddemann completed eight innings by himself for San Diego on Saturday evening, keeping Santa Clara off the board by striking out nine and walking just three before handing things over to Conner Thurman, who earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Both of USD's runs were driven in by Will Worthington and scored by Dustin Allen, with the first run coming when Worthington knocked an RBI single into right-center field in the bottom of the fifth, and the second on an impressive RBI sacrifice bunt from the Torero team captain — who currently ranks second in the nation for sacrifice bunts — that provided a valuable insurance run in the bottom of the seventh.
CAPTAIN WORTHINGTON
- Neither team could find any momentum offensively until the bottom of the fifth inning, when an RBI single from Worthington plated Allen to give San Diego a 1-0 lead.
- An RBI sacrifice squeeze bunt from Worthington in the seventh inning allowed Allen to dash home from third, giving the Toreros a 2-0 lead that they did not relinquish.
LOCKDOWN LOGAN
- Reddemann got the start on the mound for USD and turned in eight dominant, scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out nine and walking three.
- He then passed the baton over to Thurman, who earned the save and secured the win for the Toreros by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

- Worthington was a perfect 2-for-2 and drove in both of USD's runs in the victory.
