Box Score LOS ANGELES – The No. 23 San Diego women's tennis program (17-8, 5-1 WCC) saw their season come to end, falling to No. 11 USC (20-8, 8-2 PAC-12), 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Marks Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a rematch of two sides that met at the Hogan Tennis Center back in February, the host Trojans got out to a strong start in doubles.
- Despite a strong start by Mia Mack and Kristina Nordikyan in No. 2 doubles, the Toreros faced early deficits on the other courts.
- Mack and Nordikyan built a 5-3 advantage on their ranked opponents but were unable to finish the match as USC took the doubles point.
- Singles proved to be just as challenging for the Toreros, who dropped five of the six opening sets.
- Jordyn McBride attempted to rally the troops with a 6-4 opening set win over her ranked opponent, but the Toreros found themselves in too large of a hole to overcome.
- A pair of wins would put USC on the brink before their top singles player secured the victory.
