Stone Signs with Washington Spirit, Makes Pro Debut

SAN DIEGO – San Diego women's soccer alumna Olivia Stone has signed a contract with the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) as a national team replacement player and made her professional debut on Sunday.

Stone joined the Spirit on Thursday and made her first professional appearance and start on Sunday, as the Spirit faced off against Liga MX Femenil (Mexico) side Chivas Femenil in the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. Washington would go on to win the game, 2-1.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Stone spent the final year of her collegiate career as a Torero, where she tallied a goal and played in all 18 matches. Stone recorded 17 starts and led non-Torero goalkeepers in minutes played, while going on to be named an All-WCC Honorable Mention contributor for her efforts.

Stone's addition to the NWSL continues the program's tradition of producing professional talent in the top league of the United States. Notably, current assistant coach and former Torero soccer player Jackie Altschuld spent time with San Diego Wave FC during her professional career.

Stone and the Spirit will continue action in the 2024 Summer Cup on Sunday, as they match up with NJ/NY Gotham FC.
