SAN DIEGO – San Diego women's soccer alumna
Michaela Foster joins an elite group of Torero alumni to become an Olympian, as Foster was selected the New Zealand national women's soccer team roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Foster was initially tabbed as a travel reserve but was promoted to the active roster due to the injury of one of her teammates and make her first appearance as an Olympian. Foster previously competed for her home nation in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
A native of Hamilton, New Zealand, Foster has continued a prolific professional playing career, spending several years with Wellington Phoenix FC, in the top-flight of Australian soccer. The defender has been capped 13 times by her national team and recently earned her first international goal against Samoa in an OFC Olympic qualifying match in February.
Her international career has already been prolific, as Foster was also a member of New Zealand's U-20 squad at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
Foster made an impact in her time as a Torero and anchored the back line for the team, while also chipping in on the offensive end, particularly on penalty kicks.
Foster and New Zealand have been drawn into Group A, alongside the host France, Canada and Colombia.
