SAN DIEGO – USD Swim opened the season with a 33-24 loss at the hands of cross-town opponent San Diego State in a pentathlon, swim-only dual meet at the Aztec Aquaplex Friday.
In the final event of the day, sophomore
Elise Sullivan reached the finish of the 50-yard breaststroke in 31.64 seconds, good for fourth place, highlighting the Torero performances on the day against the scholarship-equipped Aztecs.
Junior
Penelope Leonard paced to seventh in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.13. Senior Gigi Zinis claimed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.35 seconds.
In her debut race freshman
Catherine Dueck placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.14 while sophomore teammate
Elise Sullivan finished just behind in ninth in 1:09.23.
The Toreros will next be back in action at the Aztec Aquaplex for the San Diego State Distance Meet in two weeks time on Friday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m..
