SAN DIEGO – The San Diego men's soccer program (2-0-2, 0-0-0 WCC) battled through a chippy evening to earn a 1-1 draw against No. 24 Washington (2-1-2, 0-0-0 Big 10) on Wednesday night at Torero Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a rough-and-tumble affair to start between a pair of quality teams as the first 10 minutes of action featured a pair of fouls on each team without any shots on goal.
- Iain Wagner delivered San Diego's first shot of the game in the 13th minute of play that was saved by the Huskies' keeper.
- The first corner kick of the night was earned by the Huskies in the 26th minute as their scoring chance went by the wayside thanks to a foul on Caden Buckley that was drawn by Wagner.
- After each side earned a pair of yellow cards in the 33rd minute, the Toreros earned another free kick after the Huskies' Peter Kingston upended San Diego's Godwin Antwi. The free kick resulted in a shot from Jack Sandmeyer that sailed off target.
- After each team traded throw in's during the final minute of the half, both teams headed into the break scoreless.
- It only took eight minutes into the second half for Washington to break through as Peter Kingston snuck one past Luis Ludosan as the Huskies led 1-0 at the 53-minute mark.
- The Toreros kept battling by pushing the ball deep into Washington's side of the field and Samy Kanaan came through with some fancy footwork to push across the equalizer with 30 minutes left in the match.
- Neither team came close to generating another scoring chance as a Huskies' corner kick in the 83rd minute was neutralized by a Washington foul on Antwi.
- The match ended with a Huskies' throw in during the final minute as both sides left with a draw.
