SAN DIEGO –  In a matchup between two teams receiving votes for the ITA Top-25 Preseason Poll, USD Women's Tennis collected it's first win of the season, taking down UC Santa Barbara 5-2 at home on Sunday afternoon.
 
The day was highlighted with the Toreros first doubles wins of the season, including a big top-10 win for the 38^th-ranked senior duo of Kailey Evans and Claudia de las Heras, who beat the nation's No. 9 doubles pairing of Honer and Weissheim.
 
The duo of sophomore Kristina Nordikyan and Gabby Gregg also dominated in doubles, Gregg's first collegiate win, 6-0 on court three to kick off the doubles point clinch.
 
In singles play, freshman and 105^th-ranked Hannah Read made quick work of her opponent to win 6-0, 6-2 on court five. No. 31 Evans followed suit at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4, 6-1. De las Heras put up a good fight on main court against national No. 16, however having to retire in the third set due to injury.
 
It was Nordikyan who clinched the San Diego victory with the fourth point of the day, a 6-4, 6-3 win on court three. With the match's decision already in hand, freshman Anni Puls played out her match on court four, securing a comeback three-set super tiebreak win, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), [10-2].

The Toreros travel north to Los Angeles for the highly-touted ITA kickoff weekend, facing current No. 12 Auburn in the first round on Friday, Jan. 24 and either No. 16 USC or Penn on Saturday.
