SAN JOSE, Calif. – After a slow start, San Diego trailed by as much as 28 but battled back to within 11 on the road, ultimately falling 86-69 to San Jose State on Friday night.
The game started with a 15-0 start in a first half that featured an overall stark difference in shooting splits. Halfway through the hosts were shooting 65.5% from the field and 60% from three.
The Toreros didn't give up and slowly chipped away, going on multiple bursts of scoring and defensive holds to bring the game all the back to within 11 with 6:33 remaining. Again, it seemed as though Toreros shots simply wouldn't fall, as San Jose State solidified its victory.
San Diego was led in scoring by
Tim Moore Jr.'s season-high 17 points, but the grad guard would foul out with over two minutes remaining. Freshman forward
Alejandro Aviles made his collegiate debut, coming off the bench for the Toreros in the first half.
San Diego, a team that has shot the three well at times during the season and has ranked as high as fifth nationally in the category, went 10-39 from beyond the arc on the night.
