SAN DIEGO — San Diego baseball (3-17, 0-0 WCC) was defeated 15-0 by Columbia (4-10, 0-0 Ivy League) on Monday afternoon at Fowler Park to conclude a four-game series with the Lions.
Columbia scored two in the first, one in the second, six in the fourth, one in the sixth, and five in the seventh and final inning to secure the abbreviated run-rule victory over USD.
The Toreros used six pitchers to navigate the weekend finale, with freshman lefty
Porter Rovin turning in a team-high 3.2 innings in what marked his first college start. First-year infielder
Vincent Venverloh finished the game on the mound for San Diego and needed just two pitches to end the top of the seventh and leave the bases loaded.
Jack Gurevitch led the USD offense with a single and two walks.
The Toreros are back in action on Friday night, when they travel north to Los Angeles to begin West Coast Conference play against Loyola Marymount. First pitch opposite the Lions at Page Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m.
