LOS ANGELES – No. 7 San Diego Men's Tennis battled to it's fifth 4-3 victory over a currently ranked opponent of the season, topping No. 72 LMU on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Toreros got into an early 2-0 deficit and had their backs against the wall down 3-2, but rallied to claim four singles points to win the match. It was junior
Neo Niedner who defined the rally comeback, bouncing back from a 3-6 first set loss to win 12 straight games in the second and third sets to the clinch the win.
The Toreros improve to 17-3 on the season, 2-0 to start conference play, 5-1 on the road and 5-1 in 4-3 decisions.
The Toreros woes arose in doubles as LMU found victory on court three while freshman
Adrien Berrut and grad
Savriyan Danilov claimed a win on court two, 6-3. The Lions then took first advantage with a win on main court.
To start singles play, the hosts doubled their lead with a win at No. 6 singles. USD's top dogs would respond however, first by way of national No. 7 Ollie Tarvet's 6-2, 6-2 victory on main court, then a 6-4, 7-5 win from No. 57 Danilov.
LMU would get a point back to reclaim the lead, winning on court four and putting them on the verge of victory. San Diego's experience prevailed as redshirt-junior
Stian Klaassen powered through a 6-4, 7-5 win of his own and Niedner put up back to back bagels in a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 win.
