Reddemann Dazzles in Heartbreaking Loss at No. 8 Oregon State

Sophomore righty dominates Beavers through six shutout frames before OSU earns walk-off victory in Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Sophomore right-handed pitcher Logan Reddemann dominated a potent Oregon State offense through six shutout frames on Saturday afternoon, but a walk-off home run from the No. 8 Beavers (9-3) dealt the Toreros (2-12, 0-0 WCC) a heartbreaking 2-0 defeat before a crowd of 4,003 at Goss Stadium.

Reddemann scattered six hits, walked none, and struck out seven, doing his part in a classic pitchers' duel in which neither team scored until the final moment of the game.

USD threatened to break through and take its first lead of the series in the top of the sixth, when it had runners on second and third with nobody out after Jack Gurevitch reached on an error and Austin Smith doubled. A strikeout, a fielder's choice putout at home, and another strikeout ensued, leaving the Toreros unable to capitalize and the score knotted at 0-0.

Smith (0-2) took over for Reddemann on the mound when USD went back out on defense and was masterful for 2.2 innings. He was a pitch away from pushing the game to extras in the bottom of the ninth, but what ultimately proved to be his final offering of the afternoon leaked over the inside corner to Beavers lefty Easton Talt, who golfed it over the right-field wall to plate the game's only runs and secure a narrow victory for OSU.

  • Both of Oregon State's two free passes were issued to catcher Wilson Weber.
  • Smith struck out three of the 11 batters he faced after taking the mound in relief of Reddemann.
