Toreros Eye History in Pivotal Home Match vs. #26 Pepperdine Saturday

SAN DIEGO — In what is likely a battle for the WCC regular season title, the Toreros will aim for a share of their first ever, taking on the only other unbeaten team in the conference in USD's penultimate match of the regular season. 

The match will be streamed live on the Cracked Racquets YouTube with college tennis personality Alex Gruskin (X: @AlGruskin) calling the action. Inside coverage can also be found on the @USDWtennis social channels.

WHATS AT STAKE

• With a win Saturday, the Toreros would clinch a share of their first ever WCC regular season championship

• San Diego currently holds a slight upper hand in the conference standings at 4-0 while Pepperdine is 3-0 and the rest of the field likely in the rear view mirror

• The Toreros are yet to play Washington State (3-2 WCC, April 18) while the Waves still have Pacific (0-5 WCC) and Saint Mary's (1-4) at hand to conclude the regular season next weekend

AN IMMACULATE START TO CONFERENCE PLAY

• For a sixth straight season, the Toreros are off to a perfect 4-0 start to the conference season 

• This season, the Toreros have been immaculate on their way to the unblemished record: USD has won all four doubles points and all 19 singles points the Toreros have played in (USD forfeited No. 6 singles against Portland due to a lack of healthy players)

TOREROS SWEEP THE WCC WEEKLY AWARDS

• The West Coast Conference announced on Tuesday, April 10 that seniors Kailey Evans (doubles) and Claudia de las Heras (singles & doubles) had swept the conference's weekly awards

• Together at No. 1 doubles, the pair dropped just one game in two matches on a nearly perfect weekend .. In Sunday's 7-0 sweep of Pacific, the 35th-ranked pair kicked off the action by dropping just three points of 27 in a 6-0 win at the top spot ... The tandem also won 6-1 on Saturday to start USD's 4-0 sweep of Saint Mary's

• De las Heras won both her matches at No. 1 singles on the road weekend in straight sets ... In Saturday's 4-0 sweep at Saint Mary's, de las Heras was the first court off, winning 6-3, 6-0. In Sunday's 7-0 road sweep of Pacific, de las Heras clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win on main court. No. 56 USD now has won 19 unanswered singles points to start conference play.

SENIOR DAY 

• Saturday is the Toreros final home match of the regular season, thus their Senior Day; USD Women's Tennis will honor two seniors – their No. 1 and No. 2 – Kailey Evans and Claudia de las Heras (for more on Evans and de las Heras' achievements, see PLAYER NOTES)

• The Toreros are 5-64 all-time against the Waves, the last USD win coming in a neutral site WCC Tournament final at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego on April 28, 2012, (L15)

• A native of Ennis, Texas, Evans was ranked as high as No. 13 nationally in the class of 2020 by TennisRecruiting.net

• Was ranked as one of the top players in the state of Texas, and ranked sixth in the Gulf region

• Racked up three wins over fellow blue chip recruits and was a combined 5-1 against four and five star players

• Boasted a Universal Tennis Rating of 11, and has reached as high as No. 3 in the TennisRPI
