SAN DIEGO – University of San Diego Athletics has announced the launch of the Championship Investment Fund, a transformative initiative designed to empower Torero student-athletes and sustain USD's competitive position among top programs in the West Coast Conference (WCC). As revenue sharing becomes a defining element in collegiate athletics starting July 1 — pending approval of the House settlement — the fund will provide critical resources to help USD navigate this evolving landscape and ensure the continued success of its athletic programs.
"We are excited to launch the Championship Investment Fund and invite our alumni, fans, and donors to join us in shaping the future of USD Athletics," said Kimya Massey, USD Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Athletics. "Your gift will directly strengthen our teams, support both recruitment and retention, and create opportunities for our student-athletes to compete for championships."
Modeled in part after Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiatives that benefit individual athletes, the Championship Investment Fund is USD's internal response to the new revenue-sharing landscape. Unlike NIL, which is often facilitated through third-party collectives, this fund is managed directly by USD Athletics to advance team-based priorities. Coaches and administrators will allocate resources strategically to areas with the greatest programmatic need and potential impact.
Administered by the Torero Athletic Fund, the Championship Investment Fund will offer tax-deductible giving opportunities. Its structure allows USD Athletics to remain agile and responsive to emerging priorities across all 17 sports.
