Suzette Mauney became the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development at USD in March 2023. Before joining the team, she worked at Appalachian State University for 26 years in Development and was most recently the Associate AD for Development. At App State, she collaborated with the Athletic Director and the App State University Foundation to direct and coordinate fundraising initiatives for the university's athletics program. Her responsibilities included identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts from alumni, family and friends of App State. Mauney's expertise in major gift fundraising consistently ranked her in the top three for highest performance throughout her career at App State. She has an impressive track record of securing gifts of all levels, including those in the seven and eight-figure range.
Throughout her career, Mauney served as a major gift officer for the Appalachian State University Foundation and also served as an adjunct faculty member, teaching Principles of Fundraising in the Communication Department for five years.
Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Suzette and her husband Danny raised their three daughters in Boone, NC. She is a two-time graduate of Appalachian State, earning a undergraduate degree in Communications in 1988 before earning her master's degree in Higher Education Administration in 1996.
