Women's Basketball Enjoys Afternoon at Grant Elementary School's Field Day

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball team spent their afternoon on May 8 at Grand Elementary School in Mission Hills to participate in the school's field day.

The Torero student-athletes and coaching staff volunteered to help the students and faculty enjoy a fun day under the sun while being active and enjoying friendly competition. USD's contingent helped assist the students by playing gaga ball, volleyball, kickball, basketball and hula hooping to help ensure that young people compete in different sports and activities for exercise.

"I tip my hat and applaud the USD women's basketball team," Grant Elementary School P.E. teacher Kevin Pratte said. "Coach Blanche Alverson just was hired and has a million tasks to complete, I admire that she put her team in a community service project after a few weeks of being hired. It was extremely impressive and I want to give a big shout out to Tiffany Gibson for helping to set this up. The athletes modeled great behavior for our Grant students and made a huge impact. Thank you USD women's basketball, I am now a big fan and continue to be in awe of the work USD athletics does with their athletes. They build the whole athlete and teach life skills: Go Toreros!"

In total over 400 students from Grant Elementary participated in the school's field day with USD women's basketball continuing to work hard to be a strong part of the greater San Diego community and to give back.
