SAN DIEGO — In a Senior Day ceremony before its final home game of the 2025-26 season, San Diego honored twin guards Hallie and
Jayden Rhodes along with head student manager Emma Magaña — and the Toreros made sure to send them out on a winning note.
Hallie Rhodes scored 18 points and
Olivia Owens added a double-double to lead the San Diego women's basketball team to a 64-59 come-from-behind win over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The victory improved the Toreros to 10-21 overall and 4-14 in West Coast Conference play.
The Toreros needed a strong finish, and they got one. Trailing 49-45 heading into the fourth quarter, San Diego outscored the Tigers 19-10 in the final period.
Jessica Ajayi's go-ahead three-pointer with 6:47 remaining gave USD its first lead of the second half at 54-52, and the Toreros never looked back.
Rhodes was brilliant down the stretch, knocking down three triples on the afternoon and hitting a pair of key jumpers in the fourth quarter, including a layup with 1:07 left that gave San Diego a 60-59 advantage. Owens finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds — hauling in seven defensive boards — while also dishing four assists. Ajayi contributed 14 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-6 from three.
Pacific came out of the gates hot, jumping to a 21-14 lead after the first quarter behind a strong collective effort. Winner Bartholomew led the Tigers with 17 points, and Marina Radocaj had an efficient afternoon going 4-of-4 from the field for eight points to go along with three blocks and four assists. The Tigers held an eight-point lead, 49-41, midway through the third quarter and appeared in control.
But San Diego chipped away. Owens and Rhodes each hit big shots late in the third to trim the deficit, and Ajayi's three gave USD the lead for good.
Kylie Ray sealed the victory at the free throw line with 28 seconds left, converting twice to extend the lead to 62-59. Owens then hit two clutch free throws with 21 seconds remaining to push it to five and put the game out of reach.
Eva Ruse contributed six points and six rebounds, while Ray finished with five points and three assists in her 16 minutes of action. San Diego's bench outscored Pacific's reserves 18-28, though the Toreros won the turnover battle (13 to 17) and both teams finished with 35 rebounds apiece.
The win was in front of an announced crowd of 1,988 at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
