CARLSBAD, Calif. – The first scorecards of the NCAA DI Men's Golf National Championships submitted Friday, the Toreros find themselves middle of the pack tied for 19th with a team score of +6 at the 7,548 yard, par 72 Omni La Costa Spa & Resort course.

USD, ranked No. 39, sits just five strokes out of eighth place and ahead of teams like No. 10 Virginia and No. 11 Texas A&M.
 
Canadian freshman Cooper Humphries leads the way for San Diego as the only player under par at -1 (71) with only two bogies and three birdies though the first 18 of the tournament. Sophomore You Seong Choi is not far behind with a score of one over par (73), leading the team with four birdies.
 
Both grad Jaden Cantafio and sophomore Ryan Abuan are three over par (75), bumping the Toreros from the top 10 to the lower half of the 30-team championships in which Sunday's cut is the top-eight teams after three rounds who will move from stroke play to match play.
 
Senior Ian Maspat shot a +5 (77), while as the fifth-best USD player his score doesn't count towards the team's score. Maspat bogeyed each of the last two holes while as a group the five Toreros combined for six bogeys and one birdie on holes 17 and 18, seeing their team score slip from one under par to six over. San Diego had seven bogies and seven birdies on the front nine, posting an even score halfway through.
 
San Diego will be back out on the course for the second of three rounds on Saturday, teeing off the 10^th hole in the afternoon, starting at 1:07 p.m. until the fifth player tees off at 1:51 p.m..
