USD Volleyball Dominates First WCC Weekly Awards of 2025

Toreros win WCC Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and Setter of the Week honors after going 3-0 in Hawaii

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Diego volleyball won three of the West Coast Conference's four weekly awards to begin the 2025 season, punctuating a dominant weekend for the Toreros that saw them win the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.

Nemo Beach was named the WCC Offensive Player of the Week, BayLea Sparks was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week, and Kylie Munday was named the first-ever WCC Setter of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon (September 1, 2025).

Beach was named the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic's Most Valuable Player after dominating across all three matches her team played this weekend, totaling 59 kills (4.54 K/S) while hitting a robust .341 alongside three service aces. Her big performances were key in USD's undefeated run, which saw it beat Utah State, Marquette, and Hawaii to win the event. She totaled 19 kills while hitting .319 in Friday night's season-opening 3-2 victory over the Aggies, then erupted for 28 more while averaging 5.60 K/S and hitting .364 in Saturday's five-set win against Marquette. Sunday saw her add another 12 kills while hitting .333 as San Diego swept tournament host Hawaii.

Sparks headlined San Diego's stifling defense this weekend, totaling 16 blocks (four solo) and one dig across three matches. A transfer from High Point University, Sparks, totaled six blocks (three solo) in a Friday night win over Utah State, then added four block assists on Saturday as USD beat Marquette in four sets. She played a key role in the Toreros' Sunday night sweep of Hawaii, adding six blocks (one solo) as USD finished strong to complete their undefeated run in Honolulu.

Munday shined this weekend, racking up a remarkable 118 assists, 44 digs, eight service aces, and five kills. She had a double-double in all but one of the Toreros' matches, totaling 41 assists and 11 digs on Friday against Utah State, 51 assists and 24 digs on Saturday night against Marquette, and 26 assists and nine digs in San Diego's 3-0 sweep of tournament host Hawaii on Sunday.

Beach, Sparks, Munday, and the rest of the Toreros are back in action on Friday, when they travel to Los Angeles to begin play in the Trojan Invitational hosted by USC. First serve against Creighton on Friday at the Galen Center is set for 4:00 p.m.
