ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST CREIGHTON, USC, AND UC SANTA BARBARA
Creighton:
• Friday afternoon will mark the first-ever women's volleyball matchup between San Diego and Creighton.

USC:
• The Toreros are 4-13 against the Trojans all-time.

• USD and USC last met on September 10, 2023, when the Trojans earned a 3-1 win at the Galen Center.

• San Diego last defeated USC on September 17, 2021. Then ranked No. 21 nationally, the Toreros prevailed by a 3-2 margin over the unranked Trojans up in Los Angeles.

• Saturday will mark the first time the Toreros have taken on the Trojans while they are ranked since September 19, 2019, when unranked USD beat No. 20 USC 3-2 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

• On September 13, 2013, then-No. 9 San Diego upset then-No. 1 USC at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, earning a stunning 3-1 win over the Trojans that prompted one of just a handful of court storms in the arena's history. The crowd of 2,014 assembled that day remains the fourth-largest volleyball attendance in Jenny Craig Pavilion history.

UC Santa Barbara:
• The Gauchos lead the all-time series, 13-12.

• USD and UCSB last met on September 8, 2024, when the Toreros snapped a four-game losing streak to begin the season by beating the Gauchos by a 3-2 margin in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. San Diego earned a "reverse sweep" that evening, overcoming a 2-0 deficit as it emerged victorious in three straight sets to secure its first win of 2024.

• The Toreros have won eight of their last 10 matchups against the Gauchos, a span that included seven straight wins (and six sweeps) against UCSB from 2010 to 2016.

• San Diego and UC Santa Barbara last squared off at a neutral site on September 6, 2003. Then ranked No. 7 nationally, the Gauchos dealt the Toreros a 3-0 loss at Maples Pavilion as part of the Stanford Invitational.

SAN DIEGO DOMINATES FIRST WCC WEEKLY AWARDS OF 2025
• San Diego won three of the West Coast Conference's four weekly awards to begin the 2025 season, punctuating a dominant weekend for the Toreros that saw them win the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.

• Nemo Beach was named the WCC Offensive Player of the Week, BayLea Sparks was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week, and Kylie Munday was named the first-ever WCC Setter of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon (September 1, 2025).

• Beach was named the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic's Most Valuable Player after dominating across all three matches her team played this weekend, totaling 59 kills (4.54 K/S) while hitting a robust .341 alongside three service aces. Her big performances were key in USD's undefeated run, which saw it beat Utah State, Marquette, and Hawaii to win the event. She totaled 19 kills while hitting .319 in Friday night's season-opening 3-2 victory over the Aggies, then erupted for 28 more while averaging 5.60 K/S and hitting .364 in Saturday's five-set win against Marquette. Sunday saw her add another 12 kills while hitting .333 as San Diego swept tournament host Hawaii.

• Sparks headlined San Diego's stifling defense this weekend, totaling 16 blocks (four solo) and one dig across three matches. A transfer from High Point University, Sparks, totaled six blocks (three solo) in a Friday night win over Utah State, then added four block assists on Saturday as USD beat Marquette in four sets. She played a key role in the Toreros' Sunday night sweep of Hawaii, adding six blocks (one solo) as USD finished strong to complete their undefeated run in Honolulu.

She was also named to the 2025 Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team

LAST TIME OUT: USD WINS HAWAIIAN AIRLINES WAHINE VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC
• San Diego won the 2025 Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic last weekend, taking home the trophy after beating Utah State and Marquette in five sets and sweeping tournament host Hawaii at the Stan Sheriff Center.

ROAD WARRIORS
• The Toreros will begin their 2025 season with eight straight away matches, marking the program's longest season-opening road stretch since 2006, when USD began its schedule by playing nine consecutive contests away from home.

• San Diego opened its 2025 campaign last weekend with three matches in Honolulu as part of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic before traveling north to Los Angeles this weekend for three matches at the Trojan Invitational. USD will be at Washington next weekend to compete in two matches at the Husky Invitational before finally returning home on September 18 to host Yale at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

• While USD's early road swing in 2006 was one game longer, San Diego's 2025 schedule involves far more travel. The Toreros' first three matches in 2006 were technically away from home but took place across town at nearby San Diego State.

• San Diego was picked to finish first in the 2025 WCC Preseason Coaches Poll, the West Coast Conference announced on August 20 as part of its annual volleyball preseason honors.

• Ten first-place votes propelled the Toreros to the top spot in the preseason poll. They totaled 120 points to vault ahead of second-place Pepperdine, which picked up a pair of first-place votes and 107 points.

• San Diego's selection as the conference's preseason favorite marks its first since 2023, when it also beat out Pepperdine to win the coaches' vote.

• Outside hitters Nemo Beach and Isabel Clark, middle blocker Kali Engeman, setter Kylie Munday, and opposite Kennedy Osunsanmi were named to the 2025 WCC Preseason Team on August 20, giving USD a conference-high five preseason team honorees.

• Beach, a junior from Chandler, Arizona, earned WCC Preseason Team recognition for a second consecutive year after making 20 starts and playing in 27 of the Toreros' 28 matches in 2024. Eighteen matches with double-digit kills helped her tally 281 of them across 97 sets while hitting .223, and she added 49 total blocks, 130 digs, 14 assists, and five service aces before being named to the 2024 All-WCC Second Team. Beach averaged 2.90 kills per set, 0.51 blocks per set, and 3.26 points per set last year, and ranked second on the team in total kills, kills per set, and solo blocks (11).

• Clark, a sophomore from Orange County, California, joined Beach on the WCC Preseason after a dynamic college debut that saw her earn 2024 WCC Freshman of the Year, 2024 All-WCC First Team, and 2024 All-WCC Freshman Team honors. She played in all but one of the Toreros' 28 matches in 2024, making 26 starts while totaling a team-high 311 kills across 97 sets.

• Clark also added 54 total blocks, 185 digs, 15 assists, and 17 service aces last year, and ranked fourth on the team in digs, total blocks, and service aces. She averaged 3.21 kills per set (which led all WCC freshmen), 0.56 blocks per set, 1.91 digs per set, and 3.70 points per set.

She saw postseason action during that season in Minneapolis, appearing against Kentucky in the 2024 NCAA Tournament's second round.

• Munday, the league's reigning Setter of the Year, was selected to the 2025 WCC Preseason Team after leading the Torero roster with 912 assists and averaging a WCC-best 9.50 assists per set across 26 matches and 24 starts in 2024. She ranked second on the team in digs, third in service aces, and fifth in total blocks. Under her direction, USD hit .251 as a team last season, which was the highest team mark in the conference.

• Osunsanmi, a three-time WCC Freshman of the Week, an All-WCC Freshman Team selection, and an All-WCC Honorable Mention a year ago, received 2025 WCC Preseason Team recognition following a debut college campaign that saw her play and start in all but one of the Toreros' 28 matches, totaling 251 kills while hitting .241 alongside 71 total blocks.
