SAN DIEGO – USD women's tennis improved to 3-1 on the season with a 5-2 home victory over the Cal Poly Mustangs at Hogan Tennis Center Sunday.
The day started with an energized push in doubles play. First, the sophomore tandem of
Hannah Read and
Anni Moll claimed a 6-2 win on court three. Then, on main court, junior
Kristina Nordikyan and freshman
Vilma Krebs Hyllested combined for a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, sophomore
Gabby Gregg made quick work of her opponent on court five, winning 6-0, 6-1 inside 50 minutes. The Aussie has now lost just two games in her last four sets. Next door, Moll followed suit with a straight-set victory, a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles to push the USD lead to 3-0.
After Cal Poly grabbed a point back in a battle on court one, just minutes later Keitel clinched the Torero victory with a dominant 6-1 third set victory on court two, her first time in the position as a Torero.
The remaining courts resumed play despite the dual outcome already being decide, seeing Krebs Hyllested victorious in a three-set comeback on court three. At No. 4 singles, however, freshman
Ines Leon was unable to continue and retired due to injury in a tied third set, settling the final score at 5-2.

The Toreros will have a week to prepare for a huge home tilt against national No. 2 Texas A&M on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. on the courts of the Skip and City Hogan Tennis Center.
