SAN DIEGO — University of San Diego Athletics has announced its 2026 Chet & Marguerite Pagni Family Athletic Hall of Fame class, with six individuals and one team to be inducted Saturday, Jan. 9, 2027, at the UC Forums on the USD campus.
The class stretches across more than four decades of Torero Athletics, from a Division II basketball team that helped set the stage for USD's move to Division I to a defensive end who set the FCS career record for sacks. It also brings the Hall its first swimming and diving student-athlete and its first athletic trainer. The 2026 class includes:
- Brittany Cameron (Women's Soccer, 2005-08): A four-year letter winner in goal from Dublin, Calif., Cameron was named the 2008 WCC Defender of the Year and went on to a professional career in Women's Professional Soccer, the NWSL and Japan, earning a place in the U.S. Women's National Team pool in 2012. Now the associate head coach of the Wake Forest women's soccer team, she helped guide the Demon Deacons to the 2024 College Cup.
- Carolyn Greer (Head Athletic Trainer, 1978-2018): Hired in 1978, Greer spent 40 years as USD's head athletic trainer, becoming one of the first women to hold that role at the NCAA Division I level and later serving as associate director of athletics for sports medicine. She received the National Athletic Trainers' Association's Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2007, entered the Far West Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame in 2009 and served as an athletic trainer for artistic gymnastics at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
- Tom Hagedorn (Men's Tennis Head Coach, 1996-2007): Hagedorn led the Toreros to a 141-103 record and 10 winning seasons in 11 years, including four straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2003 to 2006. He passed away in 2009 at age 43 after an 18-month battle with leukemia, much of which he spent volunteering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in San Diego. Court No. 8 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center now bears his name.
- Jonathan Petersen (Football, 2014-17): The 2017 Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Year, Petersen set the FCS career record with 44 sacks and earned first-team All-America honors from the Associated Press and STATS as a senior, when he totaled 18 sacks and 25.5 tackles for loss. The Poway native was a two-time unanimous first-team All-PFL pick for back-to-back league champions that won the program's first two FCS playoff games in 2016 and 2017.
- Amanda Rego (Women's Basketball, 2004-08): A San Diego native out of Mission Bay High School, Rego became the program's first WCC Player of the Year, sharing the honor in 2006-07 after leading the nation with 8.1 assists per game. As a senior, she recorded the first triple-double in program history. In March 2008, with USD hosting the WCC Championships at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, she was named tournament MVP as the Toreros beat top-seeded Gonzaga for the championship and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
- Ashley Swart (Swimming & Diving, 2002-06): In 2003, Swart became the first swimmer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships, placing 11th nationally in the 400-yard individual medley as a true freshman to earn All-America honorable mention. The Honolulu native broke six school records that season, was named the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference co-Swimmer of the Year, qualified for two more NCAA Championships and won three individual titles at the 2006 WAC Championships.
- 1977-78 Men's Basketball Team: Under head coach Jim Brovelli, the Toreros went 22-7 and won the NCAA Division II West Regional with a 70-67 victory over Cal State Northridge, advancing to the national quarterfinals. Led by top scorer Ron Cole, who averaged 16.8 points per game that season, and freshman Bob Bartholomew, a 2025 Hall of Fame inductee, the team helped set the stage for USD's move to Division I and the West Coast Conference in 1979.
"This class tells the story of Torero Athletics from almost every angle," said Kimya Massey, USD's Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Athletics. "There are record-setters and national leaders, a basketball team that helped carry us into Division I, and two people in Tom Hagedorn and Carolyn Greer who gave so much of themselves to generations of Toreros. We're proud to welcome this group into the Hall of Fame, and I'm grateful to our Selection Committee for the care it put into this class."
First established in 1994, the Chet & Marguerite Pagni Family Athletic Hall of Fame honors former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and teams who have demonstrated athletic excellence, contributed meaningfully to the university and upheld the values of USD. Eligibility requires a minimum five-year waiting period following the conclusion of a student-athlete's playing career or the completion of a coach or staff member's service.
The 2026 class was selected by the USD Athletics Hall of Fame Selection Committee, composed of former coaches, administrators, staff members and student-athletes.
