BERKELEY, Calif. — San Diego men's tennis competed in its second competition in the fall season at the Battle in the Bay Classic in Berkeley, where Adrien Berrut led the Toreros with a run to the singles quarterfinals and the doubles team of Berrut and Luc Wieland reached the final eight.

Berrut and Wieland paired up and got the week started with an 8-6 win over Mississippi State in the round of 16 on Thursday. Their run ended in the quarterfinals on Friday in a one-game match, as Michigan State edged them 8-7 (7-4).

In singles, Berrut put together the standout week for San Diego. He opened with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Arizona's Zoran Ludoski in the round of 32 who was ranked No. 67 nationally in the recent fall national rankings. He then took down Michigan State's Taym Alazmeh 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 16, avenging the doubles loss from earlier that day. His run ended in the quarterfinals against Pepperdine, in a 6-7 (4-7), 3-6 result.

Wieland pushed Arizona State's Niels Villard to the limit in the round of 32. After dropping the first set 3-6, he won the second 6-1 before falling in a deciding tiebreak, 6-7 (2-7). He returned to the court Saturday in an extra match against California and fell 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), [7]-[10] in a match tiebreaker.
