TULSA, Okla. – San Diego men's tennis bounced back in a big way as the ninth-ranked Toreros swept Tulsa 4-0 on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Following a heartbreaking defeat to NO. USD set the tone for the match in a highly-contested doubles point. The pairing of
Vincent Marysko and
Oliver Tarvet quickly took care of things on court two with a 6-2 win.
The other two courts, however, were in closer battles at 5-5. It was
Manvydas Balciunas and
Stian Klaassen on court three who secured the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak victory while the Toreros on court one saw their match go unfinished up 6-5.
The San Diego momentum turned into dominance in singles play.
First, on the same courts where he and Klaassen swept the ITA All-American Championship titles two years ago, Tarvet took down his counterpart on main court with only two games dropped, a score of 6-2, 6-0.
Then, it was reigning WCC Freshman of the Year
Adrien Berrut, who on court five moved USD's lead to 3-0 with only three games dropped in a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Finally, it was the freshman Marysko who clinched the match with just four games dropped, 6-2, 6-2.
