SAN DIEGO — 16th-ranked USD men's tennis returned to America's Finest City with a dominant 6-1 victory over 54th-ranked Memphis on Tuesday at Hogan Tennis Center.
 
After dropping the first match of the doubles point on court three, ITA No. 73 pairing of Adrien Berrut and Lambert Ruland evened it up with a 6-3 win on the main court. With the clinching of the doubles point relying on court two, Oliver Tarvet and Vincent Marysko came through with a clutch performance in a tiebreaker to win their match, 7-6 (7-3) to give San Diego a 1-0 lead.
 
After the match was evened up by the Tigers at 1-1 to start singles play, senior Neo Niedner improved to 5-3 on the season in singles with a pair of 6-2 sets to give USD the lead right back. Despite being tied at 3-3 in the first set on main court, Tarvet went on to win eight straight games to win the first set 6-2 and finish the second set 6-1. 
 
With San Diego up 3-1, Ruland followed up his doubles win with a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) match on court five to clinch the dual for USD. 
 
The two sides decided to play out the remaining two matches, as both induced tough second sets in which the Toreros persevered through. Manvydas Balciunas won his first set 6-2 before dropping a 7-5 set, then ultimately winning 6-3 in the third set. On court four, No. 105 Stian Klaassen completed a major comeback as after dropping the first set 6-0 and being down to match point down at 3-5 in the second set, he went on to make it a tiebreaker which he eventually won 7-6 (7-5) in the second set before winning the third 6-3.
