SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – San Diego women's tennis dropped a road contest at UC Santa Barbara, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in a battle between two of California's top college tennis programs.
 
The Toreros were edged in doubles, two matches to one, and the Gauchos rode the momentum into singles play with the support of the home crowd behind them.
 
After dropping main court, the sophomore duo of Hannah Read and Anni Moll pulled USD even with a strong 6-1 win on court two. It was for naught, however, as UCSB edged the Toreros on court three in a 6-3 affair to take the dual's first point.
 
In singles play, the hosts claimed victories on courts one, five and two in succession to clinch the match. The rest of the matches would play out, however.
 
Getting the Toreros their first point of the day was Read, who claimed her second win of the day. The ITA 121^st-ranked Brit topped her counterpart on court three in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
 
The remaining two singles matches would go to 10-point super tiebreak set for abbreviated, deciding third sets. USD was on the wrong end of narrow super tiebreak games in both, though, going down to the wire at 12-10 on court four and 10-8 on court six.

The Toreros will have a week to prepare for their next match, the West Coast Conference opener, vs. LMU on the home courts of Hogan Tennis Center on Sunday, March 15 at noon.
