Toreros Set to Kick Off NCAA Tournament at Home Friday

No. 15 seed USD men's tennis start San Diego regional play vs. UC Santa Barbara

SAN DIEGO – No. 15 seed San Diego is primed to host a NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament starting Friday at 1 p.m. with a first-round matchup against UC Santa Barbara at Hogan Tennis Center.

Hosting a regional in a second straight season after never having done so before last season, Torero fans set an attendance record at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in 2025 and could re-break that record this year.

The WCC regular season and tournament champion Toreros compete in their 21st NCAA Tournament but aim to win out of the first two rounds and head to their first Sweet 16 in program history. It's a goal that has always been front of mind for 11th-year head coach – five-time WCC Coach of the Year– Ryan Keckley and his squad.

Also in their region are No. 20 UCLA and No. 31 Arizona State, playing at 10 a.m. Friday. The regional final will take place on Saturday, May 2 at noon. USD (20-5, 6-1 WCC) topped the then-ranked No. 20 and now-Big West Champion and No. 35 Gauchos (18-7, 5-1 Big West) on the road in Santa Barbara, 4-2 on Feb. 21. The Toreros also faced UCLA (17-7, 10-3 B1G) and Arizona State (17-10, 4-4 Big 12) at Hogan Tennis Center, suffering defeat to the Bruins once in February and the Sun Devils twice back in January.

The Toreros have lost just five matches on the season, going a 10-match win streak that lasted over a month with five straight shutouts to start conference play en route to a fifth straight WCC Regular Season title. They are now winners of 12 of their last 13, seven straight at home since the loss to UCLA on Feb. 26.

On Saturday, April 25, USD mounted a remarkable comeback in four and a half hours to clinch its third straight conference tournament championship. USD's most notable wins on the season in addition to at UCSB are vs. No. 16 Baylor, vs. No. 17 Arizona, at No. 19 USC and four other top-30 wins.

San Diego is led by three-time WCC Player of the Year and 2025 Wimbledon breakout Oliver Tarvet who has won 12 straight matches and is 18-2 on the season, ranked No. 19 nationally. WCC Freshman of the Year Manvydas Balciunas is 14-4 in his debut season and ranked 94th nationally. The doubles lineup is fronted by the national No. 34 duo of Lambert Ruland and Adrien Berrut while ITA All-American National Champion tandem Stian Klaassen and Tarvet are expected to combine on court two.
