San Diego Ends 2026 Season with 10th-Inning Walk-Off Over LMU

Lobliner delivers game-winning RBI single, helps 14 graduating players secure 9-8 victory on Senior Day at Fowler Park

SAN DIEGO — Throughout the final weekend series of the 2026 season, San Diego baseball has relied on its offense. On Saturday, the Toreros once again relied on their bats.

In a game that had already featured six lead changes, Jayden Lobliner, who had hit for the program's first cycle in 26 years on Thursday night, hit a walk-off bloop single, scoring Gage Mestas to give USD a 9-8 win over Loyola Marymount in 10 innings.

Before Lobliner incited the Fowler Magic, Cade Martinez led off the 10th with a walk, before a Nico Button sacrifice bunt paved the way for Mestas to single through the right side to tie the game.

Chaz McRoberts was able to work around a run in the top of the 10th inning to earn his first win in a Toreros uniform as USD (20-30-1,12-14-1 WCC) ended its season with a sweep in West Coast Conference play over the Lions (12-44, 3-24 WCC).

Despite surrendering a run in each of the final three innings, San Diego scored five runs within the fifth and sixth innings.

Mestas recorded an RBI triple, scoring CJ Moran before Gauna brought Mestas home on an RBI groundout.

After Lobliner and Greer singled, Phoenix recorded a run-scoring ball in play as Lobliner scored on a throwing error by the Lions to cap off a three-run fifth.

Gauna and Lobliner both logged an RBI in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and a groundout, respectively, to take a 7-5 lead.

Head coach Brock Ungricht, who earned his 150th career victory Saturday, made sure to get as many graduating Toreros in as he could. Besides Diego Gutierrez and Drake Frize, who started Thursday and Friday, he nearly got all of them in.

The only graduating player Ungricht didn't get into the game was Jagger Edwards, although he was warming up in the Toreros bullpen.

Nate DeSchryver went the first 3.1 innings before Fernando Palencia and Logan Piper secured the next six outs. Caleb Sebek then went 2.1 innings, setting up Aidan Gonzalez to secure the final out of the eighth inning and all three outs of the ninth inning.
