STOCKTON, Calif. — A home run from
Vincent Venverloh was the bright spot for San Diego in a 18-6 loss at Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
The sophomore infielder's sixth-inning solo shot ensured that the Toreros (17-30, 9-14 WCC) did not go down without a fight, but the Tigers (22-26, 14-9 WCC) prevailed all the same, scoring in five of the seven frames that the two teams played in the mercy-rule shortened contest.
Pacific's offensive barrage came after USDÂ sent starting pitcher
Caleb Sebek to the mound with a 2-0 lead. He held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom half of the inning before they plated seven runs in the second to take a 7-2 advantage that only grew as the game went on.
Freshmen
Phoenix Brant and
Jayton Greer both notched RBI doubles in the top of the seventh. Graduate outfielder
Andrew Gauna drove in two runs, both on sacrifice flies.
NOTABLE
- Cade Martinez drew two walks. He was one of five Toreros that worked a free pass on Saturday.
- Diego Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs scored.
UP NEXT
The Toreros will wrap up their series at Pacific tomorrow afternoon. First pitch against the Tigers — in what will mark USD's final road game of the 2026 season — is set for 1:00 p.m.
