LIMA, Peru — San Diego volleyball is coming home with gold.

Competing as Team USA, the Toreros swept Chile 25-19, 25-12, 28-26 in Saturday's final at the 2026 FISU America Games, closing a five-match run through the tournament in which they never lost twice in a night and never needed a fifth set.

Kylie Munday was named MVP of the tournament, and the final was a fair summary of why. The setter handed out 35 assists with 11 digs and zero setting errors while the offense in front of her hit .295. For the week she distributed 180 assists — 10.6 per set — against just two errors, neither of them in the final three matches, and San Diego hit .311 behind her.

The Toreros hit .455 in the opening set, converting 19 of 33 swings against four errors, and took it 25-19. The second turned on serve pressure: Chile earned a first-ball side-out on just two of its 25 receive chances, managed five kills against 11 hitting errors, and dropped the set 25-12. The third was the one Chile made a match of — the only set of San Diego's week to go past 25 points — and the Toreros closed it 28-26 to end the tournament.

Kierstyn Barton led the Toreros with 13 kills at a .400 clip and matched them with 13 digs, her third double-double of the Games. Nemo Beach added 12 kills, an ace and a team-high 18 serve-receive attempts. Meghan Scholz closed her week the way she spent all of it, going 8-for-10 at the net with two aces and a hand in four blocks, and BayLea Sparks was in on six blocks, the most of anyone on the floor, while hitting .417.

Lauren Lynch dug 13 balls and took 15 serves with one miss, and behind her San Diego out-dug Chile 52-45. Emma Brewer put down seven kills, was in on two blocks and did not miss in 10 trips to the service line.

THE WEEK IN LIMA
San Diego finished 5-0 and won 15 of 17 sets, taking four-set wins over Brazil and Argentina around sweeps of Peru, Colombia and Chile. The Toreros hit .311 for the tournament and held their five opponents to .079 — none of them hit better than .173 in any match.

Barton's 58 kills led the team by 14, and she hit .355 with 48 digs and six aces across the five matches. Scholz finished at .577 on 52 swings, never hit below .375 in a match, and was in on a team-high 18 blocks. Sparks hit .426, Brewer paired 44 kills with 36 digs, and Beach put down 40 kills while taking more serves than anyone on the roster, passing .875 on 88 attempts.
Lynch anchored the back row with a team-high 56 digs and passed .905 on 74 receptions. Ryann Knuth was charged with just one reception error on 33 chances all tournament, and twelve Toreros recorded a kill or an ace across the five matches.

San Diego/Team USA leaves Lima unbeaten, and it leaves with gold.
