RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — The University of San Diego men's golf team closed the inaugural USD-hosted Vuori Invitational with an even-par 284 on Tuesday afternoon at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, climbing from eighth to fifth in the 12-team field. Junior Cooper Humphreys paced the Toreros with a 5-under 66, the low round of the tournament, and finished tied for fifth individually.

Rounds of 289-293-284 gave USD a 14-over 866 in its 2026-2027 opener on the 7,003-yard, par-71 layout. The closing 284 was the third-best team score of the day, trailing only Colorado and USC, and carried the Toreros past Oregon, San Diego State and Pacific. San Diego finished two strokes behind fourth-place BYU and three back of third-place USC.

Humphreys entered the final round tied for 29th after rounds of 75 and 72. His 66 was the only score under 67 in three rounds of play by the 75-player field and moved him up 24 spots to finish at even-par 213.

Sophomores Reid Piron and Reed Arnaldo and senior You Seong Choi each finished at 6-over 219 to tie for 22nd. Piron opened with a 2-under 69 that had him tied for third after 18 holes, while Choi's closing 1-under 70 was second only to Humphreys among Toreros on the final day. Arnaldo carded rounds of 72-74-73, and junior Brady Clark tied for 40th at 10-over 223.

Four Toreros also competed as individuals, led by freshman Connor Herrera, who closed with a 1-over 72 to finish 61st at 15-over 228 in his collegiate debut. Sophomore Charlie Gillespie and junior Henry Dall tied for 72nd at 29-over 242, and freshman Ryan Arnold, also making his collegiate debut, finished 75th at 31-over 244.

Arkansas won the team title at even-par 852, one stroke ahead of Colorado, whose closing 3-under 281 was the low team round of the tournament. San Diego State's Brayden Forte earned medalist honors at 5-under 208, two shots clear of BYU's Kihei Akina.
