Sophomore (2015-16): Went 4-6 in singles in the fall... Was 3-5 in doubles and picked up a dual match win at the No. 3 spot.
Freshman (2014-15): Went 3-8 in singles with a 1-2 mark in dual matches... Was 1-3 in doubles... Appeared in one dual doubles match.
High School/Juniors: Four-year varsity letter winner at Chapparral HS, part of SUSD conference under coach Greg Basilla... In his junior year was undefeated in season, runner-up in state finals... Senior year undefeated in season, crowned state champion... Four-star recruit on TennisRecruiting.Net... Ranked No. 2 in state of Arizona and No. 224 nationally.
Personal: Born James Ponwith on April 29th, 1996 in Chandler, Arizona... Son of Pam Ponwith... Uncle, Clayton Sheffield played football at Mirian Military Institute... Chose the Toreros Program because of the beautiful campus, and because he "loved the team when I visited." ... Also recruited by Boise State, Redlands, Nevada, and IUPUI... Played a year of varsity soccer in high school... Enjoys playing video games such as FIFA, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Kart... Currently undecided in major.
