What is your most memorable swimming/diving moment? Why? Probably breaking a 55 in the 100 fly. It was a swim off between me - an 18 year old - and another girl - a 14 year old - for top eight at a high-level meet. I had been trying and failing for awhile to break it and because a girl four years younger than me had done it, the competition was real for me and my team knew it. They cheered for me behind the block and when I broke the 55 (and beat the girl) they were just as excited for me as I was.
Describe yourself as an athlete and as a student: Swimming and school are both top priorities in my life. I want to do my best in both, which means I'm ready to put the time into perfecting my strokes and building my education. But beyond just getting the hours in, I want to enjoy what I do when I do it, so I try to maintain a positive attitude in both my swimming and college carreer.
What piece of coaching and/or personal advice has stuck with you over the years? A piece of personal advice that I continue to value more and more as the years go by is to view failures in a positive light. Failure is what you learn from, what shapes you and helps you grow as a person; it teaches you humility and gives you ambition and so many other priceless principles. So, instead of being discouraged by a failure or hurting yourself trying to avoid it, embrace the failures in your life and learn from them.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years? Enjoying the adventures life has to offer.
