Team Leader
Sophomore (2005): Was outstanding in seven starts and eight appearances before being sidelined with a season-ending shoulder injury (is expected to make a full recovery for his junior season in 2006)... Invited to play for 2005 USA Baseball National Team... Candidate for the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the nation[apos]s top collegiate player... Was 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA, striking out 53 batters in 47+ innings... Limited opponents to a .190 batting average... Was named the WCC/Rawlings Pitcher of the Month (March)... Turned in a dominating pitching performance over then-No. 11 Texas A&M (2-27-05) in College Station, hurling a three-hit shutout propelling USD to team championship honors at the 2005 Dominos Pizza Aggie Baseball Classic... During the month of March, Boman was also named the West Coast Conference/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week (3-1-05)... Garnered weekly recognition from the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll (3-1-05) and joined three teammates on the Aggie Baseball Classic All-Tournament Team (2-28-05)... Struck out a career-high 10 in seven complete innings vs. UC Davis (2-20-05)... Did not lose as a starter, suffering his only loss on the year at USC (2-15-05) in four-plus innings as a reliever... Walked just 14 batters and allowed just five extra-base hits... Fanned eight batters and allowed just one run in consecutive wins early in the season, at Hawaii-Hilo (1-27-05) and at UC Riverside (2-4-05)... Continued to gather recognition and accolades until leaving his seventh start of the season after just three innings at LMU (3-19-05)... Just under the pitching minimum (48 innings) to be considered among NCAA and USD season-leaders in ERA (2.28) and K[apos]s per 9 innings (10.08).
Freshman (2004): Impressive as a true freshman in 2004... Untouchable in 12 relief appearances within WCC play, allowing just one earned run as USD[apos]s closer posting a 1.16 ERA and a 3-1 record in 23.1 innings... Boman saved a total of 6 games on the year in 6 chances... Struck out 69 batters in 51.2 innings... Fanned a season-high 7 twice, first against Houston (3-13-04) in three full innings in front of 25,175 at San Diego[apos]s new downtown stadium Petco Park... Also punched-out 7 in three-plus innings of work against Santa Clara (4-8-04)... Allowed just four extra-base hits (no homeruns) within league play... Was 3-1 with a team-leading 2.26 ERA in 22 appearances and four starts... Made three starts early in the season and one at No. 21 UC Irvine (5-11-04)... 11 of his 13 earned runs were scored during his four starts... Limited opponents to 40 hits in 51.2 innings... Fanned 4 or more batters in nine of his 22 outings... Issued 34 walks... Also started seven games as the DH, hitting .182 (6-for-33) with a double.
High School: Drafted by the Anaheim Angels in the 39th round of the 2003 MLB First-Year Player Draft after starring at San Diego[apos]s Patrick Henry High School... Two-way standout at Patrick Henry posting a 9-3 record with 96 K[apos]s on the mound and hitting .360 with 5 homeruns as a prep senior... Helped the Patriots reach post season play for three consecutive seasons... Hit .443 with 3 HR and 39 RBIs as a junior leading Patrick Henry to a 22-10 record... Twice named a First Team All-Eastern League player... Also played for San Diego[apos]s Dugout Club program, being named an all-tournament player twice.
Personal: Born on February 4, 1985 in Grand Forks, North Dakota... Son of Rick and Lorraine Boman... Heavily recruited by UC Riverside, San Diego State, Arizona, Santa Clara and Long Beach State... Chose to attend USD for the academic programs and the great baseball program.
