Mike McGlinchey

Mike McGlinchey joined San Diego football in the summer of 2023 as the Toreros’ assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and defensive line coach.

Prior to USD, he was the head coach at Division II William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri for three seasons (2020-2022). His time with the Cardinals saw him lead the program to its first win since 2019 and its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win and road win since 2018. He coached 17 total All-GLVC performers in his tenure at William Jewell and had 22 players earn Academic All-GLVC honors.

Before William Jewell, he spent four years at Colorado School of Mines as the co-defensive coordinator, working primarily with the defensive line. McGlinchey helped lead the Orediggers to three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships and three NCAA-II National Playoff appearances in 2016, 2018 & 2019 and coached 13 All-Conference performers. His previous coaching stops also include Salisbury University (defensive line coach), North Carolina Central University, (special teams, running backs, and defensive line), Towson University (Special Teams and Recruiting Coordinator), Princeton, New Hampshire, and the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League.

McGlinchey, a 1999 Patriot League All-Academic selection, earned four letters at offensive guard and tight end for Towson, appearing in 36 games with two touchdowns while being known for his outstanding blocking ability. As a senior, he was a part of the Tigers’ impressive passing game, which accounted for nearly 4,200 yards and 23 touchdowns.

A native of Frostburg, Maryland, McGlinchey has two children with his wife Victoria: daughter Ashley and son Cole. He earned his bachelor's degree in sports communication from Towson in 1999. McGlinchey's father, Mike McGlinchey, Sr., led Salisbury University to the 1986 NCAA-III National Football Championship.
