A 19-year coaching veteran, Devlin has held various roles across the collegiate, high school and AAU levels. He joined the University of San Diego ahead of the 2022–23 season after spending three seasons at George Washington University as an assistant coach.
Throughout his coaching career, Devlin has worked with numerous future NBA players, including Jamison Battle, Jalen Pickett, Andre Jackson, Isaiah Stewart, Tim Frazier, Josh Reaves, Lamar Stevens, Tony Carr, Jaysean Paige, Carrick Felix, Pierre Jackson, Terrence Ross, and Justin Anderson.
At George Washington – under Jamion Christian, now the head coach of Bryant University in the American East conference – Devlin played a key role in recruiting All-A10 guard James Bishop, who finished third all-time in scoring at GW and led the Atlantic 10 in scoring during the 2022–23 season. He also assisted in the development of Brendan Adams, who was named the A10’s Most Improved Player that same season.
Prior to his time at GW, Devlin spent a season at Siena College, where he helped the Saints improve their win total by nine games, finishing with a 17–16 record and a tie for second place in conference play in 2021. Under his guidance, senior forward Evan Fisher emerged as one of the most improved players in the nation, leading the team in both scoring (15.9 PPG) and rebounding (6.0 RPG) after averaging just 7.8 points and 4.9 rebounds the year before. Devlin also played a major role in recruiting two future MAAC Players of the Year: Jalen Pickett (2020) and Manny Camper (2021).
Before Siena, Devlin coached with the Albany City Rocks AAU program, leading both the U16 and U17 teams.
He entered the Division I ranks at Penn State, serving as Director of Player Development under head coach Patrick Chambers from 2013–17. There, he contributed to the development of 2018 NBA Draft pick Tony Carr, five-year NBA player Lamar Stevens and worked closely with Tim Frazier, who became the 2015 G League MVP and Rookie of the Year. Under Devlin’s guidance, both DJ Newbill and Carr led the Big Ten in scoring during their collegiate careers.
From 2009–13, Devlin was an assistant coach at the College of Southern Idaho, where he helped lead the program to the 2011 NJCAA National Championship. During his four-year tenure, the Golden Eagles posted a 105–32 (.766) record and won back-to-back Region 18 regular season and tournament titles in 2011 and 2012. Devlin helped develop nearly 20 student-athletes who went on to play Division I basketball, including 2011 NJCAA National Player of the Year Pierre Jackson.
Earlier in his career, Devlin served on the staff at Montrose Christian School (MD) during the 2008–09 season, working under Hall of Famer and two-time National High School Coach of the Year Stu Vetter. That season, Montrose finished 21–3 and reached a peak national ranking of No. 1 by The Washington Post. Devlin played a key role in recruiting future NBA first-round picks Terrence Ross and Justin Anderson, as well as Villanova standout Mouphtaou Yarou.
Devlin began his coaching career with a two-year stint at Bowling Brook Preparatory School (Md.) from 2005–07, followed by a season at Hagerstown Community College (Md.), where he served as both assistant and interim head coach during the 2007–08 season.
Devlin and his wife, Erin, have two children, Royce and Sadie.
