Charlotte Smith

Charlotte Smith joined San Diego women's rowing in the fall of 2022 as the Toreros' assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Smith grew up in Wayland, Massachusetts. Her parents, both formerly rowers and coaches, supported the variety of athletic endeavors she pursued. She finally gave rowing a try her junior year of high school, joining the Wayland-Weston rowing program. She continued her rowing career at Division 1 George Washington University, spending all four years in the First Varsity boat. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science, and awards including MVP and Atlantic 10 First Team Conference Honors.

Smith also spent her summers sculling with clubs in Boston and Washington, DC, including Potomac Boat Club and Vesper. She was invited to the U23 sweep camp at Princeton in 2017, and after graduating started training with the High Performance Group at Riverside Boat Club in Boston.

Smith started coaching novice rowers at Community Rowing in Boston, Massachusetts in the spring of 2018. She then moved to the Varsity program at Dexter-Southfield School, Massachusetts for the 2019 racing season.  Sun, sand, and surf called and she accepted the job offer of assistant coach at UC San Diego in fall of 2019, where she served from 2019-2022.

She currently resides in San Diego and enjoys watching the sun set over the bay from the roof of her apartment.
