Mya Johnson

Mya Johnson joined the University of San Diego Athletic Department in July 2024, currently serving as Director of Scholar-Athlete Development/Chief Diversity Officer. In her role, she oversees diversity and inclusion efforts among student athletes on campus. 

Prior to coming to USD, Johnson was at the University of Connecticut and Oregon State University. At UConn, she spent time in the community outreach program, focusing on Political engagement and dialogical programs. Johnson assisted in creating and facilitating leadership development programs for student athletes. She also supported the rebranding of the life skills program, called “Husky Advantage.” She also conducted one-on-one coaching sessions with student athletes to increase leadership skills. 

During her time at Oregon State, Johnson led Beavs Lead, a three-part leadership series focused on communications, conflict management and leadership skills. She created and launched Beaver Belonging, a four-year educational series for student athletes. She also saw Beavs United, the student athlete multicultural umbrella, housing eight affinity groups. Johns designed and executed the Beavs United Student Leadership Summit, fostering leadership and collaboration, while managing community engagement initiatives, including the OSU Day of Service programs and Beavers Without Borders, a travel abroad program for student athletes and staff to promote global service. 

Johnson is originally from Long Beach, CA and has three siblings, Adrian Acuna-Johnson, Tierra Cox and Tariq Johnson. She was also a former collegiate basketball Scholar-athlete.
