The USD men's soccer team won their sixth straight match with today's 3-0 win over the San Diego State Aztecs (6-4-1)to improve their record to 7-2-2. The host Aztecs dropped their first home match and saw their five-match win streak snapped. It was USD's second straight road win this week over a team ranked in the Far West Region Top-10. SDSU was 8th while the CS Northridge Matadors were 4th and 18th in the nation; USD beat the Matadors 3-1 earlier in the week. It was USD's 4th straight win against the Aztecs in the all-time series.
Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie at halftime today. It was all USD in the 2nd half with senior MF Matt McCausland getting the Toreros on the scoreboard first in the 60th minute of play. Sy Reeves wove through the SDSU defense and saw his shot deflect off of Aztec keeper Colin Hanke with McCausland gathering in the rebound and knocking it in for his 3rd goal of the season.
Reeves made it 2-0 in the 75th minute off of assists from McCausland and Eric Wunderle. Redshirt freshman Michael Caso added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to put the match away. Torero keeper Lance Friesz posted another shutout as he was credited with 4 saves on the day.
The Toreros begin a 4-game homestand this Tuesday, Oct. 14th when they host Alliant at 7 pm.
