Oct. 19, 2003

Box Score

San Diego, CA- A flurry of late goals allowed host San Diego a 3-0 win over San Francisco Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium. The victory was the ninth straight for San Diego (10-2-2; 4-1 WCC). San Francisco (6-9; 1-2 WCC) played USD to a standstill before the San Diego offense erupted for three late scores. The first came from freshman Eric Pohl off a lead pass from Eric Wunderle in the 62nd minute.

With just three minutes remaining to play San Diego would tack on two more scores. During a stretch in which USD reeled off five consecutive breakaway shots, senior Sy Reeves headed in a feed from freshman Ryan Guy. Guy would then score a goal of his own, receiving a perfect lead pass from teammate Kevin Meissner, rattling the net to give USD the decisive 3-0 advantage. San Diego's final two goals came at the 87:31 and 88:35 marks.

San Diego goalkeeper Lance Friesz saved five shots and was credited with his eighth shutout. Don keeper Geremy Uhl saved three but was unable to fend off a total of 14 USD shots. The Dons totaled five shots on the day. Both teams combined for over 30 fouls.

The Toreros will try and extend its nine-game winning streak when they host Loyola Marymount Friday at 7pm.
