The USD Toreros men's soccer team, ranked 20th in the nation, played the No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins to a 2-2 double overtime tie this evening before 2,437 fans at Torero Stadium. San Diego jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Michael Caso and Scott Burcar, but UCLA pulled to within 2-1 at intermission, then tied it up in the 81st minute of play. San Diego, now 12-4-3 on the season, will find out this Monday, November 17th, who they will face in the postseason. The Selection Show will air at 1:00 p.m. on ESPNews.
San Diego's first goal came in the 25th minute when Michael Caso scored unassisted from the right side with his sharp shot getting past the Bruin goalie. Senior MF Scott Burcar made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute, off an assist from Caso, from the top of the box with his ball finding the lower left corner. UCLA answered immediately 20 seconds later with Ryan Valdez scoring a soft goal up the middle past a diving Lance Friesz. Chad Barrett knotted the score at 2-all in the 81st minute from 15 yards out.
USD outshot the Bruins 18-17 and won the corners, 5-3. USD keeper Lance Friesz was credited with 5 saves while UCLA goalie Zach Wells notched 4 saves.
