USD Toreros Fall To NAU Lumberjacks 91-81

The USD Toreros (2-8), playing in Flagstaff, Arizona at 7,000 feet elevation, dropped a hard-fought 91-81 decision to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (5-5). NAU, behind the stellar shooting of 6-5 senior guard Kelly Golob (10-13 in treys for 30 points), made 17-of-34 three-pointers on the night in holding off the Toreros. USD, which trailed 43-39 at halftime, was paced by senior guard Brad Lechtenberg with a career-best 22 points (6-12 in treys) and sophomore forward Nick Lewis (20 points). The Toreros return home to host UCSD on Tuesday at 7 pm in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the road loss USD falls to 0-7 in games played away from the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Junior forward Brandon Gay, who missed practice time, bounced back to chip in with 18 points while Brice Vounang added 9 points. USD shot 42.9% from the field, made 16-of-23 free throws and 9-of-25 three-pointers (36%).

NAU shot 51.5% from the field, made 12-of-20 free throws, but more importantly, buried 17 of 34 three-pointers (50%). The Lumberjacks evened their record at 5-5 and 4-0 at home.
