On a night in which Marta Menuez became just the eighth player in San Diego history to reach 1,000 points in a career, San Diego fell to 0-2 in conference play with a 63-52 loss to Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Thursday. The Toreros overall mark moved to 5-10 and will next play at Pepperdine Saturday night at 7:00pm. Menuez scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds, both team-highs, but LMU received 19 from senior Kate Murray to hold off a late Torero rally.
Loyola Marymount improved to 11-5 and 2-1 in the WCC. Murray's 19 points was complemented by nine rebounds from reserve Rachael Ziemann. The Lions forced 21 San Diego turnovers, compared to LMU's 13 in a game in which both team's shot just 35 and 36 % respectively from the floor.
San Diego fell behind early, trailing 30-21 at halftime. Despite a late charge by San Diego, during a second half in which the Toreros shot 41% from the floor, LMU came away with the win, and now prepare to host Santa Clara Saturday night.
