Toreros Come Up Short Against Portland

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Eugene Jeter scored 20 points and Donald Wilson added 18 points to lead Portland to an 84-72 win Saturday night over San Diego, handing the Toreros their 10th straight loss.

The Pilots (9-11, 3-4 West Coast), who led 40-38 at halftime, took control of the game with a 12-2 run in the first three minutes of the second half for a 52-40 lead.

Portland never trailed again.

Jeter hit a 3-point shot during the key run and also ended the burst with a fastbreak lay-up at the 16:48 mark.

Wilson scored 11 of his points in the second half when the Pilots shot 53 percent from the field.

Brice Vounang scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace San Diego (3-18, 0-5), which has not won since beating Division II UC San Diego on Dec. 23.

The Toreros are just two defeats short of tying their all-time record for losses since beginning play in Division I in the 1979-80 season.

Brandon Gay added 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for the Toreros, who committed 19 turnovers.
