JR's Journal | Vol. 4: From Summer to Season

Dear Torero Fans,

As we concluded our eight-week summer workout period, I could not be prouder of the commitment and productivity of our guys. Throughout the summer, we worked to turn our daily habits into standards, our standards into an identity, and now our focus shifts toward establishing the culture we want as we reunite for the school year.

Our entire group deserves recognition for the way they approached these eight weeks, but I especially want to highlight the leadership and development of Jevon Hill. Jevon took a major step forward in the leadership facet of his game. He has become more than a reliable player on the court — he is someone his teammates respect, trust, and look to for guidance. He has embraced the responsibility of leading our team by example and is poised to have an outstanding senior season.

Our recent Coaches Clinic was also a tremendous success. I would like to thank Cara Brown and her staff for organizing the event, as well as Jeff Van Gundy, Cori Close, Seth Davis, and Anthony Slater for generously sharing their time, knowledge, and experience. I also want to thank every coach who joined us, filled the Basketball Performance Center, and contributed to such a special day. Check out a quick recap of the event here.

We hope the clinic provided an opportunity for our guests to experience everything the University of San Diego has to offer. More importantly, we hope it served as an open invitation to return during the season and support both our team and Blanche's team as we compete in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

As we get ready to start the academic year next week, our team is fired up to officially introduce itself to the entire USD community. This upcoming weekend, our players and staff will assist with freshman move-in and orientation activities as we welcome the newest members of the Torero family to campus.

We want our program to be visible, accessible, and supportive — not only at basketball games or within the athletic department, but throughout every part of campus. We are committed to engaging with our fellow students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters while showing up for the entire USD community. We want everyone on campus to know who we are, understand what we represent, and feel welcomed to join us in the JCP this season.

Lastly, save the date — we're hosting our first 6th Player Night on October 15 at 5:30 p.m. It will be a chance to join us inside the JCP, get an early look at both of our programs, and hear from Coach Blanche Alverson and me as we prepare for the season ahead.

More details and registration information coming soon. We hope to see you there.

Go Toreros!
