LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The San Diego Toreros fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions for the second time this weekend on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. The Lions used three second half goals to improve to 8-4-3 (6-0-1 WCC) on the year, while the Toreros fall to 5-6-3 (2-3-2).
San Diego took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute as Michael Caso netted a shot from 15 yards out. Leon Abravanel was credited with the assist. USD took the 1-0 lead into the half, as goalkeeper Lance Friesz stopped LMU's only two shots on net.
The Lions tied the match less than six minutes into the second half, with a goal by Sean Rhynard. USD took the lead again in the 61st minute on Jan Prochazka's second goal of the year. Ryan Guy had the assist, increasing his team-leading assist total to six.
Diego Barrera tied the game again for LMU in the 77th minute, heading in a cross from Matthew Mejia. The Lions took their first lead of the match on another header in the 81st minute by Armando Melendez, which turned out to be the game-winner. San Diego had one more chance to tie the game in the final minute but a shot from Eric Pohl sailed high.
The Toreros will now get ready for a road trip to the Pacific Northwest for rematches against the Portland Pilots and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Friday's match at Portland is set to begin at 2:00pm with Sunday's match at Gonzaga is slated for 1:00pm.
