SPOKANE, Wash. - Kevin Meissner scored his first two goals of the year on Sunday, helping the San Diego Toreros to a 3-1 victory over the hosting Gonzaga Bulldogs. Meissner put the Toreros on the board early as he netted a shot in the fifth minute. Brett Hiroto was credited with the assist, his first point of the year. The Zags' Arni Pjetursson tied the match less than two minutes later with a free kick from 30 yards that found the back of the net.
USD took the lead for good in the 30th minute as a Ryan Guy pass deflected right to Meissner who scored from the right side of the box for his second goal of the match. The scored remained 2-1 going into halftime, with San Diego holding a 7-4 advantage on shots.
In the 62nd minute, Bulldog goalkeeper Sean Sosnovec dropped the ball and Michael Caso took advantage by hitting the open net for his team-leading fifth goal of the year. Neither team scored in the final 28 minutes as the match ended with a 3-1 victory for the Toreros.
San Diego will play its final two home contests of the year next weekend as they host the Saint Mary's Gaels on Friday, November 5th at 7:30pm and the San Francisco Dons on Sunday, November 7th at 2:00pm.
