Torero Women Lose In Waning Moments

San Diego, CA- Shanell Law hit a baseline three-point jumper with 29 seconds remaining to give Pepperdine a one-point lead and allow the Waves a 69-66 victory over San Diego at USD's Jenny Craig Pavilion Thursday night. Kelly Greathouse had 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Pepperdine (13-10; 7-3 WCC), who has now won five straight. San Diego (6-16; 1-8 WCC) received 16 points and six rebounds from sophomore Tiara Harris, losing its tenth game in eleven outings.

In front of 363 fans, the Toreros led by as many as nine points on two occasions in the second half. Jamie Corwin scored 15 points despite fouling out at the 8:13 mark. Melissa Padgett added 10 rebounds for USD and Marta Menuez scored 15 points.

Trailing 46-37 with 17:14 remaining, Pepperdine went on a 7-0 run sparked by a three-point basket from Shandrika Lee. Both Lee and Law scored eight of their 12 points in the second half. The Waves and Toreros exchanged leads over the final ten minutes before Law buried a heavily contested three-pointer in the waning moments, giving Pepperdine the lead for good.

San Diego returns to action Saturday night when the Toreros host Loyola Marymount at 7pm.
