USD Ties Dartmouth 1-1 In Very Physical Match

San Diego, CA - In a very physical match on Friday night, the San Diego Toreros tied the Dartmouth Big Green 1-1 in front of over a thousand fans at Torero Stadium. With the game scoreless near the end of the first half, Kevin Wilson was called for his second caution of the game, forcing the Toreros to play shorthanded.

Although they were playing a man short, USD was able to take the lead when Andrew Ehrich put in a shot from a sharp angle in the 53rd minute. Ryan Guy assisted on the goal giving him a WCC leading four assists on the year.

Dartmouth tied the game on controversial Mark Lampert breakaway goal. The Torero players and coaches argued that he had been offsides but there was no whistle. The match continued to get more and more physical as the game remained tied through the end of regulation.

Just over two minutes into the first overtime, Dartmouth's Scott Darci was ejected for his second caution of the match. Playing ten on ten for the rest of overtime, neither team could manage a score, leading to a 1-1 tie. The tie brings San Diego's record to 2-2-1, while Dartmouth is now 0-1-2.

There were a total of 37 fouls in the match (22 on Dartmouth, 15 on San Diego) and 5 yellow cards to go with the two ejections. The Toreros outshot Dartmouth 19 to 12, including 10 to 4 in the first half.

Up next for the Toreros is the undefeated Michigan State Spartans on Sunday at 2:30pm in Torero Stadium. The Spartans defeated San Diego State on Friday night to improve their record to 5-0-0.
